Classes Handmade Paper & Mixed MediaLinda Lemon www.lindalemon.com This class will emphasize the use of handmade paper as a fine arts medium. It will cover papermaking basics, such as sheet formation, pulp handling and processing plant fiber. While working with both the wet pulp and the finished paper, we will mix our media (watercolors & acrylics, found materials) & techniques (painting, collage).
Nature Photography and SketchingRex Burress Explore the natural wonders of the Oakland Camp Region trekking forth with naturalist Rex, who has 37 years experience studying the area, to special pictorial sites for artistic contemplation with camera and sketch pad. Creative possibilities are endless and envelopment in nature priceless.
Burnished PotteryBlanka Solyts Using currently revived traditional techniques of the American Southwest Natives, we will create red or black shiny surfaces with matte designs painted or carved with white slip. Basic clay skills and primitive firing techniques will be included. Take home beautiful, finished pieces. For both beginning and advanced clay enthusiasts who want to explore their claytivity.
Let the Crazy Child WriteClive Matson www.matson-ford.com Bring lots of paper and the germ of a writing project for a week of inspiration. We'll seduce the Editor and Writer into taking a break and give our Crazy Child - our "creative unconscious" - free reign. Walks, meditations, immersion in nature at the Witch's Cove, plus the appreciative support of "syngenetic" feedback, have given this workshop an astonishing reputation. The quantity and quality of what you write will surprise you, and we'll strut our stuff with a reading for the whole camp on the final night.
Chinese Brush and other WatercolorKaren LeGault www.karenlegault.com Drawing and painting from nature, trees, plants, flowers, rocks and water will be our subjects. We'll work in a variety of media, but primarily Chinese Brush painting and watercolor, with ample opportunity for personalized and group exercises including basic skills. Complete beginners welcome. Independent study available for more advanced students.
Transforming the Humble GourdSioux George www.gourdette.com There will be cleaning, dyeing, cutting, painting, drilling and embellishing. The end results will be vessels, drums, masks, rain sticks, or whatever your art desires. The goal is to have a finished gourd every day. Beware: Gourds have been known to be habit-forming. No experience necessary. Desire to have fun with gourds is required.
The Painter's Journey: Finding your Creative VoiceMichele Theberge Through journal exercises, relaxation and visualization, we will embark on a creative exploration. We will draw on a variety of sources: our past, present and future, dreams, imagination, and the inspiration of our surroundings. The use of texture mediums, transfers and collage will be demonstrated. Especially for oil, acrylic and mixed media artists who want to take their work to new levels.
Jazz, Classical & Contemporary GuitarLawrence Ferrara & Howard Pomerantz This runs concurrently with but separately from the Adult Arts Camp. Family and other campers may participate without any extra fees. It is open to all campers. Classes are geared to individual needs and cover beginner through advanced levels. Warm-up exercises, familiarization with chords & their symbols, strumming & finger picking techniques, composition & song writing will all be part of the curriculum. |
